Dan Luvisi is a “digital artist” (I totally just did the Dr.Evil finger quotation marks…MUAHAHAHAHAH). I really find the pieces featured on Trendland’s post on the artist to be quite base. Especially the above frame, featuring a man vaguely resembling Lenny Kravitz holding a chimp. The only remotely cool thing about this picture is that the monkey is wearing a red tie and probably contemplating taking a dump on Lenny’s forearm. The art featured in the original post is way too 80s/anime style/original Nintendo console games for my liking. Did that make sense? No? Too bad.
Ok, so I just read his bio and now a lot of the graphic novel-esque concepts and textures make sense. But I’m still not crazy about the majority of them. YEAH I’m talking about you, Lenny. You’re so 2001.
I found the art featured on Luvisi’s site to be far more appealing and thematically stimulating. The effect of the art itself– the video game-looking texture of the prints– aren’t my cup of tea, but that’s just me. I wasn’t able to save the photos I liked best from Luvisi’s website, so I encourage you to browse yourselves; my favourites are the Wonka photo, the clearly Tim Burton-inspired Nightmare Before Christmas/Beetlejuice print, and the cool “Don’t fuck with me, zombies, I’m S.W.A.T.” I hope the Kravitz/Chimpanzee photo feels like a loser compared to those.
